Hails from a middle class agriculture family. Had his early education at his native village Haridasupuram. Completed High School education at Mandasa & Tekkali during 1944-1948. Studied Intermediate at Maharaj College, Vizianagaram during 1948-1950. Completed M.B.B.S. from Andhra Medical College during 1950-1955. Started medical practice at Palasa in 1957 with special interest in Family Planning & Surgery. Founder President of Palasa Educational Charities. Closely associated with service and government agencies for better community health. Runs a free medical clinic. President of “Kanithi Donganna Chowdary & Mailavaram Subba Rao Educational Trust” . Awards cash prizes every year to meritorious 10th class students of Palasa-Kasibugga & Govindapuram. Worked for construction of 42 pucca houses under L.I.C. Scheme. Served as Vice President of District Scouts & Friends. Conducted around 7000 free surgical procedures for family planning.Continuous member of Indian Medical Association since 1956 and instrumental in establishing separate I.M.A. branch in Tekkali Division. Served in various positions including President of the I.M.A. branch. Joined Lions Club in 1971-72 as Charter Member of Palasa-Kasibugga. Served as President of the Lions Club during 1974-75. Attended Lions International Conference at San Francisco, U.S.A in 1974.

Served as Member of District Stadium Committee. Served as Member of District Probation Committee. Served as Member of Hospital Committee and Law & Order Committee. Managing Partner of Gotham Tin Fabricators manufacturing 18 liters tin containers. Practiced Buddhism as a way of life. Married Lalitha in 1964, a postgraduate in English Literature. Son Rajendra completed Commerce Degree and pursued computer education in U.S.A. Daughter Sarada completed M.B.B.S. and practices medicine in Australia. Supported Congress Party candidates in elections from 1957 onwards. Played kingmaker role in Samithi, MLA & MP elections during 1958-1989. Worked hard for regional development in education and communications. Elected twice as Member of Parliament for Srikakulam during 1989-1994. Served in both 9th and 10th Lok Sabha. Contested 2014 elections under Samykhyandhra Party and later joined BJP.

Legacy of Dr. V Kanithi’s Government ITI



Dr. V Kanithis Government ITI was established in 1981 with the name of ITI Palasa as a private ITI by the founder Late Dr. Viswanatham Kanithi, PDG, Ex-M.P. (9th & 10th Lok Sabha, India).

The institute was established with the motto of empowering technical education to the grassroots level of BPL families.

In 2010, it was handed over to the Government with the vision of providing free education to all people, along with 3.26 acres of land worth ₹10 Crores, buildings, machinery and staff.

After the government takeover, it was renamed as Dr. V Kanithi’s Government ITI. The Central Government also sanctioned ₹250 Lakhs for improving civil works, machinery and infrastructure.

To establish libraries, reading rooms and promote literature, arts, sports and culture among the public.

To support Blood Banks and organize blood donation camps for saving human lives.

To work for the elimination of illiteracy through educational awareness programmes.

To financially assist economically weaker sections and poor families whenever required.

To contribute towards education and healthcare activities for the benefit of society.

To assist educational institutions, health centres and charitable organizations.

To establish and support medical camps, health awareness programmes and humanitarian services.

To promote community development, unity, peace and social responsibility among youth and citizens.

To take all necessary steps for fulfilling the aims and objectives of the Lions Club of Palasa-Kasibugga Service Trust.
